Men vad gör man.

Welcome to the world of Coachella

Yesterday, the absolute time of the year for all music lovers, fashionistas and party people begun. Colorful clothing, cropped tops and flower crowns were to be seen everywhere.

The sun is starting to set, coloring the sky golden. Calvin Harris is about to enter the stage at any time now and I’ve hardly seen so many people in my life. It’s like an ocean of people.

At the back of the audience a girl stands by herself, looking towards all the people, scanning them. The beams from the sun touches her long, blonde hair and the wind plays with strands of it.

“I kind of lost my friends somewhere in there”, she says and smiles to me. She tells me her name is Magenta Anderson. She’s wearing white, crochet shorts, a black top with deep cleavage and a long magenta colored blouse that covers her shorts on the side. Around her neck a dozen necklaces fights to be seen.

I ask her what she thought when she got dressed this morning. “Oh, actually I just put something on. I woke up in my tent by loud music, so I just put on something that made me feel stoked about today”.

The last of her words disappear in Calvin Harris intro.

The audience starts jumping to the base and loud, girly screams blasts out as he screams “HEY YOU BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE”. The ocean of people seems to be spellbound by the music, jumping up and down to the base. Somebody is screaming for Magenta, she finds her friends and she disappears quickly into the crowd with her friends.

In front of a Ferris Wheel four girls jumps around in a ring, hugging each other, singing to the music. They look like a girl band because of their clothing. It seems like they totally discussed what to wear this morning.

They´re all dressed in earthy shades, mostly in white. They got feathers in their hair, multi colored nail polish and some of them have lines of colors in their face.

”We’ve been planning this since we booked our tickets. This is the perfect platform to make a fashion statement, Fanny Hagren, one of the girls in the ring, says”

“We want to look like this bohemian girls but with a bit more of attitude, she continues”

And bohemian is absolutely the theme of this years Coachella. I’ve lost count of how many different kinds of flower crowns I’ve seen or how many different kinds of crochet clothing types people are wearing. Covered heads are also popular. The most popular headwear besides the flower crown is the slouch hat, the braided headband and the round hat. I even saw a few girls wearing feather crowns.

‘’This is the time for me to shine and I wanna shine in this feather thingy”, says a brunette with hair to her waist, she laughs and dimples appear in her cheeks.

A guy comes up from nowhere and picks her up. She laughs and kicks with her legs.

“So much love,” he yells, the girl giggles and they disappear into the crowd. I have to smile.

The sun has now set and the strobes from the stages becomes more powerful as the lights hits the waving arms in the air and make them silhouettes. The sun is sleeping but it’s far from over for the festival people. The night is young.

The Bik Bok keywords fit in quite well on this years Coachella. People hope to inspire others with their clothing and surprise them with the unexpected. People come to listen to music but also to listen to other peoples stories.  And the most important word, the reason why people come to festivals – LOVE

Love to their friends they share the experience with, but also to the music and the people they will meet along the festival.
Maybe some will find the love of their lives or just love for the night. Maybe some will find love in music they never heard before. Love is important; everything becomes so much better – with just a little bit of love.
